Six NC lifters headed up to Columbus, Ohio to participate in the USAPL Raw Powerlifting Challenge at The Arnold Classic.

Lifting started bright and early with the ladies. Amanda Padgett achieved a 259 lb. squat, 138 lb. bench press and a 335.5 lb. deadlift in the 125 lb. weight class. At the end of the day, Amanda had an American record in the deadlift, took first place in her weight class, second place in the overall, with 406 Wilks points. Amanda is only the third woman to score over a 400 Wilks.

Jennifer Thompson led the women’s 138 lb. class with a 314 lb. squat, 301 lb. bench and a 429 lb. deadlift. She broke the IPF World Raw Bench Press record with all three bench presses, and the total record twice with her last two deadlifts. Jennifer took first place in the open, first place in the overall and scored a record breaking 530 Wilks points.  This was the highest overall Wilks of the meet (men and women).

Tammy Walker also had a record setting day in the 185 lb. weight class going nine for nine on her attempts. She squatted 281 lbs., 248 lb. bench press, and a 347 lb. deadlift. Tammy took first place in her weight class, second place in the master’s division and set Raw American records in the squat, bench press, and total, and Masters Raw American records in the squat, bench, deadlift, and total.

Yes, the ladies came and then conquered! :)

The men’s flights followed with NC lifters Travis Pardue, Donovan Thompson, and Rick Wilcox.

Travis dropped from the 183 lb. class to see what he could do in the 163′s. He ended the day with a 408 lb. squat, 287 lb. bench press and 501.5 lb. deadlift, taking 4th in the open division and 8th in the master’s division (determined by formula).

Donovan Thompson competed in the 183 lb. class and squatted 463 lb., benched 353 lb., and deadlifted 518 lb. He placed 3rd in the open division and 6th in the master’s division.

Rounding out the NC lifters was Rick Wilcox who competed in the 265 lb. weight class. Rick played it cool with a 551 lb. squat, 452 lb. bench and a huge 656 lb. deadlift, placing 2nd in the open division and third in the master’s.

In the end, NC came and we represented. Great lifting by all! The ladies will be going to Sweden on June 10th to represent the USA in the first ever IPF Raw Worlds. Good Luck!
